Amelia Messenger is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Idaho. Amelia got her bachelor’s degree in public health from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah and her master’s degree in counseling from Boise State University.
Amelia has been working in the mental health field for nearly eight years. She has experience working with women who’ve experienced domestic and sexual violence, children and adults with acute mental health issues in inpatient hospital settings, adults with co-occurring substance use and mental health diagnoses, and survivors of trauma. Amelia has experience working with individuals experiencing a variety of mental health struggles such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship issues, low self-esteem, and grief and loss. Amelia is passionate about working with community members ages 16 and above.
Amelia’s utmost priority in the therapy setting is creating a space that is welcoming for people of all backgrounds; this means that her office is an affirming space for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, religions, racial and ethnic identities, and more. Amelia advocates for her clients by not shying away from difficult topics such as systemic and institutionalized oppression and violence that greatly impact mental health and well-being. Amelia believes that the most transformative aspect of therapy is establishing trust from which clients can build and thrive moving forward.
Amelia’s approach to therapy integrates internal family systems, attachment-focused therapy, and nervous system regulation through present moment awareness and somatically based approaches. Amelia believes that therapy should be a collaborative experience in which the client feels comfortable to voice their needs and goals throughout the counseling process.
Amelia knows that everyone is capable of healing. She encourages a holistic approach to change which empowers individuals to use their innate strengths to process the past and fully experience the present.
Amelia enjoys exploring the outdoors with her partner and dog, settling in with her snuggly cat and a good book, cooking with veggies and fruits from her garden, traveling, and running in the beautiful foothills surrounding the Boise area.
